Life goes On
Unfinished
Carolina Renee Blaire woke up before her alarm on Monday morning, sitting up and stretching, then glaring out the window. It was another rainy, dreary day, and she had to go to work. “Great.” She mumbled to herself as she got up and went to the bathroom. As she was brushing her teeth she looked in the mirror and sighed at her own appearance. Blue eyes that had perpetual bags under them, blonde hair streaked with grey and full of dead ends, and lines here, there, and everywhere on her face. She spat the toothpaste out and rinsed her mouth. “Welcome to forty, I suppose.” She got dressed and went downstairs, foregoing breakfast and walking out to her old truck in the garage. She got in the truck, ignoring a call from her ex husband as she stuck the key in the ignition. “Not today, Satan. Not today.” She went to start the truck and nothing happened. She growled and tried several more times but had to admit the 27 year old truck had finally given up on her. She got out and grabbed her umbrella to start walking. On her walk she was thinking about everything that'd led to this moment, starting with the day she married that drunk. And now she hadn't been on a date in seven months. She wasn't the religious but she half playfully looked up to pray. “Come on... where's my sign I'm not gonna be alone forever.” She waited a couple seconds and then. “Mew...mew, mew.” She looked down at a jet black Kitten. “VERY FUNNY!” She yelled at the sky which seemed to spooked the small cat. It darted down the alley. “Oh no, I wasn't yelling at you baby..” She went to follow to see if she could catch the critter, forgetting she was going to end up late for work. She got to the end of the alley, and there was no sign of the cat but she was in front of the strangest building she'd ever seen. It looked to be falling apart but was covered in neon signage. She figured it was a bar of some sort and turned around to leave, but then turned back. “Well hell...they won't miss me for one day will they?” She stepped back towards the building, and headed inside.
